Luka Modric Commits to AC Milan Until 2027 at Age 40

At 40 years old, Luka Modric has surprised many by signing a new contract with AC Milan, keeping him at the club until mid-2027. The Italian side confirmed the news through their official channels, announcing the extension after his previous deal expired on June 30, 2026.

The Croatian midfielder had been available on a free transfer and had hinted he would decide his future only after the 2026 World Cup. Despite approaching 41 later this summer, Modric chose to continue playing, showing no signs of slowing down.

“Since joining, Luka has been essential in our midfield, offering his experience and skills both on and off the field with humility and passion,” AC Milan stated on their website. “He is one of the most iconic players in world football and will keep wearing the number 14 jersey as he aims for new achievements with the club.”

New Chapter Under Rúben Amorim

Modric will be part of AC Milan’s fresh project under the guidance of new head coach Rúben Amorim, who has been brought in to usher in a new era for the Rossoneri.

After ending a remarkable tenure at Real Madrid, Modric joined AC Milan on a free transfer in the summer of 2025. He quickly became a key figure in the midfield during his first season in Serie A.

In 37 competitive matches for Milan, the veteran midfielder scored two goals and assisted three. Additionally, he played in all four of Croatia's games at the 2026 World Cup before their run was halted in the round of 16 by Portugal.
