Glentoran Edges Linfield in Women's Irish Cup Semi-Finals
Glentoran booked their place in the semi-finals of the Women’s Irish Cup with a gritty 2-1 win over fierce rivals Linfield at the Blanchflower Stadium, powered by a superb double from Naomi McLaughlin.
The tie simmered for over half an hour before McLaughlin broke it open on 36 minutes, striking first to give Kim Turner’s side the lead in a cagey contest. Linfield, roared on at home, refused to fold. Cora Chambers dragged the Blues level, restoring parity and injecting real edge into the closing stages.
The derby tension only grew as the clock ticked down. Then McLaughlin stepped up again. With eight minutes left, she found the net for a second time, a decisive finish that finally broke Linfield’s resistance and sent Glentoran into the final four.
Holders march on
Cliftonville’s defence of their crown stayed firmly on track with a commanding 3-0 victory over Derry City.
An early own goal handed the holders the ideal platform, and from there the Reds controlled the tie. Teegan Lynch struck to tighten their grip, and after the interval Louise McDaniel added a third to seal a comfortable passage into the semis.
Crusaders survive Sion Swifts fightback
At Seaview, Crusaders Strikers had to work for it but emerged 2-1 winners against Sion Swifts, the side already crowned Championship champions.
Ali Nelson put the Premiership outfit in front, and when Rebecca Bassett doubled the advantage, Crusaders looked to be cruising. Sion Swifts refused to go quietly. Substitute Caoimhe Heron pulled one back to set up a tense finish, yet Crusaders dug in and saw the game out.
Lisburn complete semi-final line-up
Lisburn claimed the final semi-final spot with a tight 1-0 win over Ballymena United, edging a narrow contest to join Glentoran, Cliftonville and Crusaders Strikers in a last four loaded with storylines and ambition.
