Barcelona’s Gavi Opens Up After Spain's World Cup Triumph

Spain's victory at the 2026 FIFA World Cup keeps inspiring powerful stories. Barcelona midfielder Gavi shared a deeply personal message following the final, where Spain edged out Argentina 1-0. At just 21 years old, Gavi looked back on his path from a hopeful youngster in Los Palacios to a world champion.

A Journey Marked by Sacrifice and Gratitude

In a heartfelt post on social media, Gavi expressed his thanks to those who supported him throughout his career. He posted two photos: one as a child playing for La Liara Balompie, and another kissing the FIFA World Cup trophy after the final whistle.

“May no one wake me from this dream – the dream of a boy from Los Palacios who dreamed of winning the World Cup with his country…”

The midfielder also opened up about the challenges he faced, including injuries that could have derailed his progress. Every setback, he said, was worth it to reach this peak moment.

La Masia and Barcelona: Pillars of His Success

Gavi made sure to highlight the people and places crucial to his development. He thanked Real Betis, where his football journey started, but reserved special praise for FC Barcelona and their famed academy, La Masia.

“I owe a great deal to everyone at La Masia who welcomed me from day one, and to the coaches and staff at FC Barcelona, who helped me grow as a footballer and as a person, and enabled me to become a world champion.”

He also dedicated a touching note to his grandmother for providing extra strength during recent months.

Contributions in the Tournament

Although not always in the starting lineup, Gavi played a key role when called upon by Spain manager Luis de la Fuente. Across the tournament, he appeared for 76 minutes, starting against Cape Verde and coming on late in the knockout win over Austria.
