Galatasaray's Bold Move for Bruno Fernandes: €50m Bid and Huge Contract Offer

Galatasaray are preparing one of the boldest moves of the summer: a double-pronged push to prise Bruno Fernandes away from Manchester United.

The Turkish champions, emboldened by another title and the financial muscle that comes with it, are ready to test United’s resolve with a major offer and a contract proposal that would transform the Portugal star’s earnings.

Galatasaray’s big swing

According to reports from The Telegraph and journalist Ben Jacobs, Galatasaray are set to table a €50m (£42.8m) bid to United for their captain. On top of that, they are prepared to hand Fernandes a four-year deal that would make him the undisputed star of Rams Park.

The proposed contract is eye-catching: €21m (£18.3m) net per year, plus a €4m signing-on bonus. Thanks to Turkey’s favourable tax system, that package would effectively double his current take-home pay at Old Trafford.

Club president Dursun Özbek is described as “determined” to land Fernandes, and this is clearly not a speculative enquiry. It is a full-scale attempt to lure one of the Premier League’s most influential midfielders to Istanbul.

Contract clock ticking

The timing of Galatasaray’s move is no accident.

Fernandes, now 31, has entered the final 12 months of his United deal, which is worth around £200,000 a week. United do hold an option to extend that contract by a further year, but a previously reported £57m release clause has expired, meaning any departure now rests entirely on the club’s willingness to negotiate.

That uncertainty has put rival clubs on alert. Saudi Pro League sides have tracked Fernandes for some time and Al-Hilal tried to tempt him away last summer with a huge financial offer. He turned that down, choosing instead to stay and chase more major honours with United.

Galatasaray are the latest to test that loyalty.

United’s stance: not for sale

For now, Old Trafford is holding firm.

The Telegraph, BBC Sport and Jacobs all report that United have no intention of selling Fernandes in this window, regardless of the size of the bid. Inside the club, he is viewed as central to Michael Carrick’s plans and a cornerstone for the next phase of the rebuild.

United want to keep building around their captain, not cash in on him.

TEAMtalk reported last week that United will keep Fernandes this summer despite the volume of interest, and that position is echoed across multiple outlets. The message is consistent: he is not on the market.

Fernandes’ priorities

Crucially, the player’s own stance aligns with that.

BBC Sport state that Fernandes’ priority is to remain at Old Trafford. He is understood to be fiercely loyal to United and still driven by the challenge of winning more in both the Premier League and the Champions League.

The financial pull elsewhere is obvious. Galatasaray can double his net salary. Saudi Arabia can go even higher. There is also an acceptance that, later in his career, he may choose a more lucrative league to further secure his family’s future.

But right now, he believes he has more to give at the highest level in England and Europe.

So Galatasaray are ready. The contract is drawn up, the bid is being lined up, and the numbers are big enough to make anyone pause.

The problem for the Turkish champions? The one man they want most still sees his story at Old Trafford as unfinished.
