Fantasy Premier League Changes for 2026-27 Season

The 2026-27 Fantasy Premier League (FPL) season introduces several new elements alongside adjustments to player prices and positions. The updates aim to enhance team selection, live tracking, and price prediction for managers.

Starter Team Help

Choosing a starting squad with a £100 million budget and 15 spots to fill can be challenging. This season, FPL offers assistance by suggesting an initial team based on your preferred playing style and supported club. Managers retain full control to modify their squad before the first gameweek deadline.

Live Mini-League Updates

Mini-leagues are central to many players’ enjoyment. Instead of waiting until all matches finish, league tables now update live during games, reflecting real-time team performances. Bonus points will appear from the 20th minute onward rather than only after confirmation.

Price-Change Predictor

A new tool forecasts whether a player's price is likely to rise or drop by midnight the next day. It grades the chances as very likely, likely, unlikely to change, likely to drop, or very likely to drop, giving managers insight into potential value shifts.

Bonus Points System Tweaks

Following last season's major bonus point overhaul, further changes have been made:

  • Players will no longer lose bonus points for being tackled, benefiting attacking midfielders and full-backs who were frequently targeted last term.
  • Defenders need to complete three clearances, blocks, or interceptions (CBIs) instead of two to earn a BPS point, reducing their chances of racking up high defensive contribution points.
  • Goalkeepers now receive two BPS points for all saves, regardless of shot location. Previously, saves outside the penalty area earned two points and those inside earned three.
  • Goalkeepers gain an extra BPS point for denying big chances, balancing the reduction from saving penalties (from eight to seven BPS points).
  • Bonus point finalisation time has shifted from one hour after full-time to 9:00 AM UK time the next morning, allowing thorough post-match data review.

Returning Elements from 2025-26

Two significant features remain unchanged:

  • Chips can be used twice per season, once before gameweek 20 and once after. These include:
  • Bench Boost: Points from all four substitutes count.
  • Free Hit: Unlimited temporary transfers for one gameweek.
  • Triple Captain: Captain’s score is tripled.
  • Wildcard: Unlimited permanent transfers in one gameweek.

Player Prices and Position Changes

  • Erling Haaland remains the most expensive FPL player, rising from £15m to £15.5m.
  • Bruno Fernandes jumps from £9m to £12m after setting a Premier League assist record.
  • Arsenal’s Gabriel rises from £6m to £8m, becoming one of the priciest defenders in FPL history.
  • Eleven players have new positions this season:
  • From defenders to midfielders: Myles Lewis-Skelly (Arsenal), Lamare Bogarde (Aston Villa), Keane Lewis-Potter (Brentford), Patrick Dorgu (Manchester United).
  • Forward to midfielder: Eli Junior Kroupi (Bournemouth).
  • Midfielders to defenders: Mats Wieffer (Brighton), Rio Cardines (Crystal Palace), Ryan Sessegnon (Fulham), Eric Moreira (Nottingham Forest).
  • Midfielders to forwards: Omar Marmoush (Manchester City), Georginio Rutter (Brighton).
