Deniz Undav Extends Contract with Stuttgart Until 2029
Deniz Undav’s rise from loanee to linchpin at VfB Stuttgart has been sealed in ink. The Germany international forward has extended his contract with the club until 2029, with an option for a further year, committing the prime of his career to the team that turned him into one of the Bundesliga’s most dangerous strikers.
Stuttgart took Undav from Brighton and Hove Albion on an initial loan in the summer of 2023. He has not looked back. Eighty-six Bundesliga appearances, 46 goals, 18 assists. Those are not just solid numbers; they are the statistics of a forward who has muscled his way into the top bracket of attackers in Germany.
For Sebastian Hoeneß, Undav has become the reference point in the final third – a constant outlet, a finisher, and a creator. His productivity has underpinned Stuttgart’s surge back to the top end of the table, a run that has brought a runners-up finish in the league, a DFB Cup triumph and another return to the Champions League stage.
The bond between player, club and city has clearly deepened with every season. "I'm over the moon to be continuing my career in Stuttgart," Undav said after signing. “This contract extension means so much to me. The club and the city have become my second home over the past three years – right from day one, everyone welcomed me and my family with open arms and a lot of love. I'm really looking forward to spending many more years as part of the VfB family and enjoying lots more success."
From the boardroom, the sense is just as emphatic. Fabian Wohlgemuth, Stuttgart’s board member for sport, called the deal “an absolute winner, both for us as a club and for Deniz himself,” and pointed directly to Undav’s impact on VfB’s recent resurgence. The club’s climb back among the Bundesliga elite, capped by domestic silverware and Champions League qualification, has carried his fingerprints all over it.
His club form has propelled him onto the international stage. Undav has broken into the Germany setup and now stands on the brink of the global spotlight, named in Julian Nagelsmann’s 26-man squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Canada, Mexico and the USA. Stuttgart will watch that tournament knowing their No. 9 is not just a beneficiary of their revival, but one of its architects – and that his story in Swabia is far from finished.
