Curtis Jones Joins Inter Milan as English Revolution Gathers Pace

Curtis Jones has closed the door on a 16-year Liverpool story and stepped straight into the heart of Inter Milan’s new English core.

The 25-year-old midfielder has signed with the Italian champions until 2031, becoming the third Englishman in three weeks to walk through the doors at San Siro after Djed Spence and John Stones.

For Inter, this is more than a transfer run. It is a shift in identity.

“After a lifetime with Liverpool, the midfielder leaves his home country for the first time, joining fellow England internationals John Stones and Djed Spence and becoming the sixth Englishman in Inter's history,” the club announced, framing the move as part of a broader, deliberate strategy.

They leaned into the narrative too. “The time has come for a new, incredible adventure — one he can approach with the confidence that has accompanied him throughout his life,” Inter added, presenting Jones as a ready-made piece for a title-winning side rather than a project.

Italian media report that Inter will pay 35 million euros ($40.8 million) for the Liverpool academy graduate, a significant outlay for a player stepping outside England for the first time in his career.

For Jones, the goodbye was emotional and simple.

“After 16 years, it's time to say goodbye,” he wrote on Instagram, confirming his departure from Anfield. “I came here as a kid with a dream of playing for Liverpool and I've been lucky enough to actually live that dream. Liverpool will be a massive part of me.”

From a boyhood dream to a bold leap into Serie A.

Inter’s English influx

Jones is not walking into an unfamiliar dressing room. He joins a growing English enclave in Milan.

Right-back Djed Spence has already committed to a contract until 2031. Centre-back John Stones has done the same after his Manchester City deal expired, trading one champion’s shirt for another and adding heavyweight experience to Simone Inzaghi’s back line.

Inter’s history with English players has been sparse. Before this year, only three had ever represented the club in its 118-year existence. That number has now doubled in a single summer.

From rarity to trend in a matter of weeks.

The timing is no coincidence. Inter open their Serie A campaign against Monza on Saturday, and the champions are arming themselves for another title defence with a very clear message: the door is open for top English talent willing to test themselves outside the Premier League.

Jones arrives as proof of that intent, leaving behind his comfort zone, his boyhood club, and a city that shaped him, to find out what kind of player — and presence — he can become on one of Europe’s grandest stages.
