Bournemouth Firm on Alex Scott Amid Liverpool's £65m Pursuit

Bournemouth are bracing for the kind of transfer storm that usually blows smaller clubs off course. For now, they’re standing firm.

Alex Scott, the 22-year-old midfielder they regard as the heartbeat of their future, sits at the centre of an increasingly fierce tug of war. Liverpool have stepped up their pursuit. Arsenal and Manchester United remain in the background, watching closely. Inside the Vitality Stadium, though, the message is clear: he is not for sale – unless someone pays a truly extraordinary price.

Bournemouth set their line in the sand

Scott is seen internally as one of the most exciting young players in English football, and Bournemouth are acting like it. Talks over a new contract are ongoing, with club officials still optimistic they can reach an agreement despite no breakthrough yet.

Any fresh deal is expected to include a release clause, a mechanism designed to protect both club and player. It would give Scott a defined route out if the right superclub and the right fee come along, while allowing Bournemouth to dictate the level of that conversation.

Crucially, Bournemouth’s valuation is sky-high. They place Scott in the same bracket as Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson in terms of value and potential. That comparison matters. Manchester City are weighing up a move for Anderson that could reach or even surpass £100m. Bournemouth believe Scott belongs in that same elite tier of young midfielders.

The knock-on effect is obvious. Their current record sale is the £65m Manchester City paid for Antoine Semenyo. Any serious bid for Scott, sources indicate, would have to “comfortably exceed” that figure before Bournemouth even sit down at the table. For now, they are preparing to resist all comers.

Liverpool turn up the heat

Interest in Scott has been simmering for some time among the Premier League’s heavyweights. Arsenal and Manchester United have tracked him and remain admirers of his technical quality, versatility and intelligence in possession.

Liverpool, though, have moved to the front of the queue.

The admiration at Anfield is not new, but this month the pursuit has accelerated as Liverpool plan a major reshaping of their midfield. The club are already monitoring Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton, while Curtis Jones is expected to draw serious interest this summer. Questions linger over the long-term future of Alexis Mac Allister as well. Liverpool may yet need more than one midfield signing before the window shuts.

In that context, Scott’s profile looks tailor-made. He has Premier League experience, can operate across multiple midfield roles, and still has substantial room to grow. Inside Liverpool, he is viewed as the kind of signing who could anchor the next phase of their rebuild.

Iraola and Hughes: Liverpool’s trump card?

What gives Liverpool an edge is not just money or status. It is familiarity.

Andoni Iraola and Richard Hughes know Scott as well as anyone in the game. Iraola played a key role in Scott’s development on the South Coast, trusting him in big moments and shaping his tactical understanding. Hughes was the driving force behind Bournemouth’s move to bring Scott in from Bristol City, and has remained one of his strongest advocates.

Both men are now at Liverpool. Both remain convinced Scott has the tools to thrive at the very top.

Those relationships could prove decisive. Sources indicate Scott would be open to reuniting with Iraola and Hughes at Anfield, a scenario that hands Liverpool a clear advantage over rival suitors if they decide to formalise their interest with a bid.

A transfer saga in the making

Bournemouth, for their part, are not behaving like a club resigned to losing a star. They continue to push for that new contract, convinced they can secure Scott’s future and shut down the speculation, at least for another cycle.

They know the reality of the modern market. If a club of Liverpool’s stature arrives with a record-shattering offer, every stance is tested. Until that moment, Bournemouth intend to hold their ground.

Liverpool’s interest is real. The numbers involved will need to be, too. The next move, quite simply, belongs to Anfield.
