Wembley's Recent History with Champions League Finals
Since reopening in 2007, Wembley has hosted three Champions League finals, most recently in 2024. Despite bidding to secure the event once more, the venue lost out to the freshly renovated Nou Camp, which impressed UEFA with its upgrades.
Renovations and Significance of the Nou Camp
The Nou Camp is currently undergoing major renovations, which helped it clinch the hosting rights over both Wembley and Westfalenstadion, the latter never having staged a final before. This return to Barcelona stirs memories of the unforgettable 1999 final when Manchester United scored two late goals to beat Bayern Munich and complete a treble.

Wembley's Role in European Soccer
Wembley Stadium has been central to European football's biggest moments over the past 20 years. Alongside three Champions League finals, it hosted the Euro 2020 final and semifinals, a tournament delayed by a year due to the pandemic. Wembley is scheduled to feature prominently again for Euro 2028, set to take place across the United Kingdom.
Other Champions League Final Hosts
The UEFA Executive Committee also announced that the 2028 final will be held at Allianz Arena in Munich. Bayern Munich’s stadium previously hosted the final last year when Paris Saint-Germain defeated Inter Milan. This will be Allianz Arena’s third time hosting the final in 16 years.
