Arsenal Set to Offer £70m for Bruno Guimaraes Despite Newcastle's Resistance

Arsenal are readying a substantial £70 million offer to sign Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle United, even though the Magpies remain firm in their refusal to sell their captain. The Brazilian midfielder is reportedly eager to join the Gunners, pushing the talks into a more intense phase.

Midfield Reinforcement a Priority

According to reports from The Sun, Mikel Arteta has made Guimaraes his top target as he looks to strengthen Arsenal's midfield this summer. Despite Newcastle's determination to keep their key player, Arsenal’s interest continues to grow, signaling one of the transfer window’s most notable pursuits.

Player Pushes for Move

Earlier discussions suggested Arsenal was willing to offer around £60 million, but now they have raised the bid to £70 million. Guimaraes himself has communicated his wish to move to the Emirates Stadium to Newcastle, which could speed up negotiations significantly in the coming days.

Additional Transfer Activity

While Arsenal’s window started slowly, they’ve already secured Christos Tzolis from Club Brugge for £34 million and made Piero Hincapie’s loan spell permanent with a £34 million deal after his time at Bayer Leverkusen. Goalkeeper Illan Meslier joined on a free transfer. Despite their efforts, Arsenal missed out on Morgan Rogers, who was snapped up by Chelsea in a £117 million deal.

More Signings Expected

The Sun also notes that Arsenal still aims to bring in a defender, midfielder, and forward before the window closes. They are eyeing Ezri Konsa as defensive cover after William Saliba’s back injury sidelined him for several months. Free agent John Stones is also under consideration. Up front, Julian Alvarez remains a target, though Atletico Madrid insists he won’t be sold. Bradley Barcola is another option, but Liverpool currently lead the race for the Paris Saint-Germain winger.
