Alejandro Garnacho Joins Aston Villa on Loan with Option to Buy
Aston Villa have completed the signing of Alejandro Garnacho from Chelsea as manager Unai Emery works on rebuilding his squad ahead of the new season. The Argentine winger arrives at Villa Park on a season-long loan, which includes provisions for a permanent transfer depending on performance conditions during the 2026-27 campaign.
Emery Welcomes a Key Attacking Addition
The 22-year-old forward struggled to make a consistent impact at Stamford Bridge last season but has now joined Villa in hopes of more playing time and development. Emery expressed enthusiasm about the signing on the club’s website: "We are delighted with Alejandro. He is so talented, young and he showed us his wish to help our project. We are really happy."
Though initially a loan, sources suggest an obligation to buy could be triggered if Garnacho meets certain milestones, making the transfer permanent.
Context Behind the Chelsea Exit
Garnacho's move comes after Chelsea secured Morgan Rogers from Villa in a record £117 million deal. Chelsea had paid £40 million to bring Garnacho from Manchester United last September, where he had risen through the youth system and made 144 senior appearances before moving to Chelsea in 2025. Despite featuring in 43 games for Chelsea last season, he failed to establish himself firmly, scoring eight goals and providing four assists across all competitions.
Villa’s Active Transfer Window
This signing marks Villa’s fourth major addition this summer, following Johan Manzambi, Joao Gomes, and Modou Keba Cisse. The club has generated nearly £200 million from player sales, including big names like Youri Tielemans and Donyell Malen, giving Emery the funds to pursue targeted reinforcements like Garnacho.
Villa enters the new season on a high note, fresh from winning the Europa League and finishing fourth in the Premier League, securing Champions League qualification. Their next challenge will be the UEFA Super Cup against Paris Saint-Germain on August 12.
Future at Villa Park
If the permanent deal goes through, Garnacho is set to sign a four-year contract, reflecting the club’s confidence in his potential to play a significant role going forward. Manchester United stands to receive a 10% sell-on fee from any future permanent transfer due to the terms of his original move to Chelsea.
