Al-Hilal Breaks Records Signing Dutch Winger Crysencio Summerville for 70 Million Euros
Al-Hilal has completed the signing of Dutch winger Crysencio Summerville from West Ham United, making it the most expensive transfer in the Saudi club's history this summer.
The 24-year-old finalized a four-year contract after passing his medical examination in Amsterdam last Tuesday, as reported by The Athletic.
Details of the Transfer Fee
The deal reportedly exceeds 70 million euros (60 million pounds). This includes a fixed fee of 55 million euros plus an additional 5 million euros in performance-related add-ons. The move was prioritized by Al-Hilal's new management and sporting director Simon Francis, who recently arrived from Bournemouth.
Competition from European Clubs
Before Al-Hilal’s successful bid, several major European clubs showed interest. Roma offered 46 million euros, Manchester United inquired about Summerville's situation, and Aston Villa also expressed interest. Yet, none matched the Saudi club’s proposal.
Summerville's Journey to Al-Hilal
Summerville's departure from West Ham seemed likely after their relegation to the Championship, even though his contract extended until 2029. He joined West Ham in 2024 from Leeds United and appeared in 56 matches last season, scoring 7 goals and assisting 5 times.
International Highlights
On the international stage, Summerville impressed with the Netherlands at the recent World Cup. In four games, he scored twice and provided two assists before the Netherlands were eliminated by Morocco in a penalty shootout during the round of 32.
