Teams Remaining in the 2026 World Cup Quarterfinals

The 2026 World Cup expanded to include 48 teams, but as the competition tightens, only a handful remain in contention for the title set to be decided on July 19.

From an initial field of 48, the tournament quickly trimmed down to 32, then to 16, and now only eight teams stand between glory and elimination as the quarterfinal stage unfolds.

Many top contenders, including former champions, are still battling to bring the trophy home.

Updated World Cup Bracket

After matches concluded on July 10, the quarterfinals began with eight teams. France opened the round with a 2-0 win over Morocco, securing their spot in the semifinals for the third straight World Cup. Spain followed by defeating Belgium to reach the semis. England edged past Norway, while Argentina narrowly escaped Switzerland’s challenge to join the final four.

Remaining Teams and Upcoming Matchups

France started strong with a 3-0 win over Sweden in the Round of 32, then edged Paraguay 1-0 thanks to a late penalty by Kylian Mbappe. Their 2-0 victory against Morocco marked their fourth consecutive quarterfinal appearance and secured their third straight semifinal berth.
