The qualifying playoffs have wrapped up, revealing the complete roster of 48 teams for the 2026 World Cup hosted across the United States, Canada, and Mexico. The tournament kicked off with a draw in December, placing 42 teams into groups while six spots were filled by playoff victors.

United States, as a co-host, secured an automatic spot in Group D and opened their campaign on June 12 with a victory over Paraguay. They are set to face Australia next before concluding group play against Türkiye.

Canada, competing in Group B, made a statement after drawing with Bosnia and Herzegovina and then defeating Qatar 6-0. Their final group match is against Switzerland.

Mexico began strongly with wins over South Africa (2-0) and South Korea (1-0) in Group A, with Czechia still to face them.

Knockout Round Schedule (Eastern Time)

The round of 32 kicks off on June 28 at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood with a match between the second-place teams from Groups A and B. Matches continue through July 3 across various stadiums including NRG Stadium in Houston, MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, and others.

Round of 16 games span July 4-7, quarterfinals take place July 9-11, semifinals on July 14-15, with the third-place match on July 18 at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami. The final is scheduled for July 19 at MetLife Stadium.

Tournament Format

The 48 teams are divided into 12 groups of four. Each team plays three matches in its group. The top two teams from each group plus the eight best third-place teams move on to the knockout rounds, making 32 teams total.

FIFA breaks ties first by points earned among tied teams, goal difference in those matches, and goals scored. If still unresolved, overall goal difference and goals scored in all group matches come into play, followed by team conduct scores. If needed, FIFA World Rankings decide.

Teams from the same confederation cannot be drawn into the same group except for European nations.
